LIBRARY PAINTINGS

Your arms can be painted in full colour on to art board. The full achievement can be painted or any component of it, as you like. The finished piece is supplied flat ready for framing. Before you do this you can scan it for computer use or use by your printer and take photocopies.

Coloured paintings are usually done on art board up to A3. Supporters, a standard or other items added to the arms may make the painting bigger than this, requiring a professional scan.  If you want to scan on your own A4 equipment please advise me and I will work to your size.

I will use vellum if you specifically request it but there are so many superb artists who work on this material every day I would rather recommend one of them if card is not what you require.

A library painting of a past Lord Mayor of London featuring just the shield, crest and motto.Badges alone can be the subjects of library paintings. The Library painting of a client’s recent predecessor. The commission was placed upon the recommendation of a herald at the College of Arms.Library paintings need not always be done in gouache on paper or vellum. This example is in enamels and gold leaf on metal with a black background. The extensive diapering is an ideal way to enrich a plain field. The ochre diapering on the chief is less prominent on the original as gold leaf changes as the light falls on it, the diapering seeming to vanish altogether from certain
angles. The spaces on the lettering cartouche will be filled in when Lady Arden retires. With the kind permission of the Benchers of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn.
