FURNITURE

Antique furniture has often been painted with the arms of the owner when new. When it has changed hands subsequent owners have had their own arms painted over those of the previous owner or, on rare occasions, added without removing the original to show the heraldic provenance of the piece.

Whether you have an antique or a modern piece of furniture I can paint and gild your full achievement, shield, crest or heraldic badge in an appropriate position.

Typical furniture which has included heraldry:

  • Hall or porters’ chairs
  • Coffee tables
  • Fire screens
  • Trays
  • Pianos and other keyboard instruments
  • Desks
  • Picture and mirror frames

A large 18th century mirror with a rococo frame and a carved and gessoed escutcheon at its apex. Surprisingly for an object of this antiquity arms had never been painted on the escutcheon before. With thanks to the Davies family of
Dulwich.A fire screen made from mahogany ply on a mahogany frame. This porter’s chair was one of a pair painted with the heraldic badge of an English Baronet.
